The Limousin, a land of tradition


The economy in Limousin is marked by its natural ressources : land, water and forest.
Porcelain, enamel, tapestry, tanning, hydrotherapy, breeding, agriculture and particularly, apple growing are among the traditional activities of the region.

The Limousin Industry has developped and diversified around these  resources :

International groups have their headoffices in the Limousin: Bernardaud, Haviland, Legrand, Madrange, Sothys, Weston…

The trade and service sector account for 70 % of regional jobs. One of the most prominent sector, tourism, employs, directly or indirectly 9 000 people.

The economy in the Limousin hinges upon a cluster of efficient small and medium sized companies which have developped their know-how in high tech industries

  • The European ceramic network (one third of national jobs in research are based in the Limousin).

Moreover, the Limousin Region takes part in 4 national cutting edge technological sectors

  • Innoviande : meat and meat products
  • Science and systems of electrical energy.

The Limousin also has a High Tech Business Park ( Ester in Limoges), along with about 10 Business incubators and nearly 200 industrial zones.

Located at the cross-roads of motorway A 20 (North-South Paris-Toulouse - Spain)  and A89 (West-East Bordeaux, Lyon, Switzerland – Italy).The Limousin Region boasts of a national and international location.

A densely-developped railway network covers the region.
Limoges International Airport offers a complement to the transport network with 10 regular routes, 3 seasonal routes and many Charter flights.

The Limousin population has increased by 15 500 people over 8 years with people coming from the Nord-Pas de Calais, Provence, The Alps, The Côte d’Azur, as well as  from the British Isles.  All of them have been  attracted by the quality of life in the region.
